My name is Sarah Charteris and I live in Gisborne with my husband Blake, and our two daughters and son. Together Blake and I own and operate a Helicopter business in Wairoa, for which he is also the Pilot and I am the Safety Manager.
I became a registered Independent Marriage and Civil Union Celebrant in 2015. I am also a member of the Celebrants Association Of New Zealand. Becoming a celebrant became a goal of mine as I saw it as a way of combining several of my passions - getting to meet new people, creative writing, and an appreciation for a beautiful love story. And there aren't many occasions you can share in that are as happy as a wedding day!!
I consider it a privilege to be part of a couple’s "special" day, whether I have just met them or have known them for years. I just love working alongside couples to create the perfect ceremony which: reflects their personalities; celebrates their story; is a comfortable experience for all and; most importantly, results in them being married! I pride myself on being efficient, discreet and professional as well as warm, friendly and accepting. I also have a background in public speaking and a post-graduate degree in written Journalism, which I find extremely helpful in the development and delivery of ceremonies.
To date I have taken ceremonies in Gisborne, Wairoa, Mahia and Hawke's Bay and these are the areas I am passionate about serving. My husband and I both grew up in Gisborne and, with both our parents and some of our family still living there, I love any excuse to come home.
In my spare time I enjoy mucking about on the farm with our children, spending time with friends and family, blowing the cobwebs away with a run when I can, DIYing our home and fueling my unhealthy obsession for collecting indoor plants!
